John Arlotta is a 1971 graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a BS in Marketing and a minor in Transportation Management. He was also an Army ROTC graduate, and is a retired Captain in the U.S. Army Reserves. John and his wife Bobbie currently reside in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. He has 3 adult children, Mindy, Andy, and Jon, and he also has six young grandchildren, Devin, Riley, Ezekiel, Tinda, Addison and Elliot.
Upon graduation from Notre Dame, John has spent over 40 years in the healthcare industry.
He has managed very large companies as well as small companies, and he has both public and private company CEO experience. His general management experience includes turnarounds and start-ups. He has also completed an Initial Public Offering as well as guided a company through an 18 month hostile takeover. He has sold three healthcare companies and has worked either directly or as an advisor for private equity firms assisting with healthcare product and service portfolio companies. On July 1, 2008, he entered the sports management business by purchasing the Minnesota Swarm professional indoor lacrosse franchise, and he is now a member of the Board of Governors of the National Lacrosse League (NLL). John was named NLL Executive of the Year for 2009 and NLL General Manager of the Year in 2012. He is an active alumnus of the University of Notre Dame where he is a member of the Athletic Council, and he was the lead donor for Arlotta Stadium, which is the new lacrosse stadium at Notre Dame.
In July 2012, Mr. Arlotta joined CareCore National, LLC, a leading provider of specialty benefits management services to managed care organizations, self-insured entities and risk-bearing provider organizations as Chief Executive Officer. In January 2014, CareCore National sold to General Atlantic, a global Private Equity Fund managing $18 billion in assets, naming Mr. Arlotta Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
Prior to CareCore, Mr. Arlotta was a Special Healthcare Advisor to General Atlantic. In his Special Advisor role he assisted GA in identifying health care investment opportunities, participated in due diligence activities, sat on GA Boards, and assisted management teams as needed. He has also been a Special Advisor to private equity firm MTS Partners where he was Executive Chairman of Novis Pharmaceuticals, a distributor of blood plasma and pharmaceutical products located in Miami, Florida. Prior to his current roles, Mr. Arlotta served as Chairman, President and CEO of Denver based Coram Inc, a privately held provider of home infusion and specialty pharmacy services with $500 million in revenues. The company merged with Apria Healthcare in December 2008. Mr. Arlotta joined the Board of Directors of Apria, a Blackstone company in 2011 and played an advisory role on the sale of Coram Healthcare to CVS/Caremark in 2014. Prior to Coram, he served as Chairman and CEO of NeighborCare Inc., a Baltimore based public company (NASDAQ:NCRX) with annual revenues of $1.6 billion. NeighborCare was in the business of providing pharmaceutical products and services to nursing homes. John joined NeighborCare in July, 2003 and took the company public in December of that year.
Shortly after going public, NeighborCare became the target of a hostile takeover attempt by its largest competitor, and the company was ultimately sold in July of 2005. Prior to NeighborCare, from 1995 to 2000, John was the President and Chief Operating Officer of Caremark Rx as well as the President of Caremark’s specialty biotech drug distribution business. Caremark was a publicly traded (NYSE:CMX) Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) company with revenues that grew from $1 billion to $6 billion during John’s tenure. From 1986 to 1996, John was the Chairman, President, and CEO of HealthCall Corporation, a Milwaukee based distributor of durable medical equipment and consumable medical supplies for home health care. John started his health care career in 1971 at Chicago based Baxter International. In his 15 years at Baxter, he held a variety of sales, marketing, and general management positions. While at Baxter, he started one of the country’s first home care companies, providing IV therapy to chronically ill patients. He is a recipient of the prestigious Baxter Distinguished Salesman Club Award, and a past member of the Young Presidents Organization.
